“I recently had the pleasure of attending a comprehensive dentistry training course from Dr. Don Reid. I’ve literally taken courses on the subject from nearly everyone imaginable and for the first time I get it, it makes sense, and it’s easy! Don brings a lot of experience and knowledge and explains the most misunderstood topics in dentistry in a way that is easy to follow, easy to remember, and easy to implement. I look at my patients differently now and am proud to say that I am on my way, thanks to Don Reid, to becoming the best dentist that I can be.”

Occlusion for Dummies

“Occlusion still remains the leading destructive force in our patients mouths,
and dentists are afraid of it.”

“There are three diseases dentists treat, tooth decay, gum and bone disease and occlusion disease. We treat tooth decay too much, gum and bone disease too little and we don’t even talk about occlusion . Yet it is the most destructive of all and effects one half the dental population.”

Would you like to give your members a chance to remove the mystery surrounding occlusion, take away their fears, and clearly understand the mechanisms? Would they be interested in greatly improving case acceptance, confidence and practice image?

I recently gave a presentation to the Nevada State Dental Association on the topic “Occlusion for Dummies”. It was so well received that I have decided to offer the presentation, now enhanced with computer animations, to others in the California Dental Association. The purpose of this letter is to ask if your chapter would be interested in this presentation.

Why “Occlusion for Dummies”?
Occlusion is a hot topic, often debated, and misunderstood. It needn’t be so! As physicians of the mouth it is essential that we have clear understanding of the environment in which we work. When dentists have complete confidence to tackle the most destructive mouths, they will produce dramatic positive effects on their practices.

The Benefits of “Occlusion for Dummies”
My mission is to help interested dentists visualize the workings of the human mouth and the effect of occlusion in our patients’ lives. This will alleviate the fear and confusion regarding occlusion. My experience is there will be a confidence to treatment plan more comprehensively and thus increase productivity. In turn there will be a greater respect from peers and clients and, foremost, this perspective will ensure that the hard efforts to restore mouths have the greatest opportunity for success.

“Dr. Reid is a man to be jealous of. His vast knowlege of bite management makes him an extremely effective speaker who really motivated me to be the best doctor I can possibly be. I learned so much from his course it has really changed what I feel is possible in my practice. Anyone who hears him speak will come away with a real “no nonsense” approach to bite management and rehab. If you see his practice, you’ll be jealous too!!”

“Not only was Dr. Reid’s knowledge of occlusion impressive, but his delivery and non-condescending explanation of occlusion was amazing. Dr. Reid helped me understand occlusion, as well as teaching me ways I could better treat my patients with occlusal trauma. The occlusion confusion begins in dental school. After studying with Dr. Reid, I feel motivated to learn more about occlusion, and I also feel more confident knowing that I can treat occlusal problems.”
